May 2026 Indie Author Report

Every month, I write a post about how sales and social numbers are fairing in my indie author business. I hope this type of transparency will help other authors realize that every writer’s journey is different.

Online sales through third party platforms have dwindled this year. I believe this is due to me not upkeeping my ads online. I have another Bookfunnel group promotion running in June, so hopefully that will give Ebook sales a boost. I’m trying to hit more niche readers through that platform. For example: urban fantasy readers that favor action over romance. It’s something I’ve been battling since publishing a female werewolf series.

I did have a nice bump in website sales and direct sales to readers that were independent of a live event. My push for promoting the series for Indie Bookstore Day went well, and I was able to restock bookstores again this month.

As usual, the largest income was seen at the three day long comic convention we attended. It’s the third year attending that specific convention. Even though my sales were lower than usual there since I didn’t have a new book, I’m glad I attended. I met new authors and artists to expand my network. I also was delighted to chat with a handful of readers that enjoyed the series and were kind enough to visit my table and tell me so.

Social media numbers were a bit weird this month. It looked like a wash at first. When I looked closer at the numbers, I noticed people who were following me to sell me a service dropped off and were replaced by readers who’d recently purchased the books or met me. Overall, I consider that a win!
