I write up a monthly report here of my earnings as an indie author in a gesture of transparency. Hopefully, other indie authors will find it helpful and realize every author’s writing journey looks different.
This month I ran a Bookfunnel Promo along with a third party newsletter ad on the first e-book in the series, hoping to boost online sales. The effort equated to enough sales to break even on the ad cost. At least one reader purchase two more books at regular price to continue reading through the series. I’ve been busy with non-book stuff, like preparing a bookish festival with friends for June, so I STILL haven’t given the time I’ve wanted to my book marketing.
As always, the live event this month resulted in many more sales. This event took place in a city only an hour away, but it’s an area of the state I’d wanted to expand to for awhile. Previous attempts in that city included art-themed markets. While I sold books at those, this month’s event was a comic convention. Urban fantasy sells quite well at those.
April 25th was Independent Bookstore Day! Before the holiday, I restocked indie bookstores that carry my book. I need to set up a reminder on my phone to check in with the bookstores more often. Every little bit helps.
